First Lesson

On Saturday June 3rd, Joshua had his very first horse riding lesson! He was fearless and looked like he was born to ride! Here is a short video clip of his first lesson riding Cajun. Ann-Marie was teaching him to keep his heels down, toes up and how to stop a horse. Joshua got the “whoa” down fabulously!

This is Cajun, a back line dun Welsh/Quarter Horse. He’s a sweetheart at the barn. He’s only 3 years old but he is just as gentle as can be with the kids, including my own. Kayla and Rachel both rode him yesterday. And even Joshua had his first ever riding lesson yesterday on Cajun!

He’s for sale… maybe if we get a house with some land, we’ll buy him. Kayla is already plotting how to make him a part of our family and do some Pony Club show jumping on him! :D

Whinny and Duchess

I have a zillion photos from last year I have never gotten to post-process. Taken May 11, 2009, this is of Whinny and her precious baby, Duchess. Duchess was just a little sweet thing. It was my first experience seeing a newborn foal growing up.

Whinny and Duchess belongs to our trainer, Ann-Marie Lavallee. Whinny is a 6 year old Haflinger mare who was bred to the awesome Littletree Highwayman, a champion Fell Pony. By the way, Whinny is listed for sale, if ONLY I had the money for her. <3

While we were watching Kayla have her riding lessons last summer, this squirrel played a game of chase with Joshua and Rachel. He’d run around the tree trunk as my kids circled it trying to keep up with him. Just as they would, he’d scurry to the neighboring tree and start the game over.

For fun, he purposely dropped a couple of acorns on my head as I was sitting under one of the trees. Fun watching a squirrel actually interact with us! I wonder if he will be back this year to taunt us?
